Contents of the practical instruction
- The content of the practical instruction is defined by law (§7 HebStPrV, Annex 1, Para. II-IV)
- The focus is on linking the theoretical foundations with practical skills in freelance work. During their assignments, students gain skills in the areas of pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding. They will be introduced to complex care processes and learn about health-promoting and preventative measures. They should also gain an insight into the administrative management processes of freelance work (appointment and course planning, self-organization, QM, billing).
Duration of non-clinical use
- A total of 480 hours of non-clinical practical work is specified by law (Annex 2 (to §8 Paragraph 1, HebStPrV). The calculation basis for this is 12 weeks of 40 working hours per week, with a 5-day week.
- The non-clinical practical assignments are distributed by the respective universities proportionally over the entire course of study, so that there are various practical assignments lasting several weeks per student.
Proportion of practical instruction in everyday midwifery work
- The proportion of practical instruction amounts to 15% of the 480 hours of the practical placement (§13 Para. 2). This corresponds to 6 hours of practical instruction per week (15%).
- During this time, practical instructors should instruct and carry out practical tasks and prepare and follow up with the students
- In the remaining 85% of the working time, students should be introduced to the tasks of the original midwifery care and the administrative activities of self-employment. Here, students are allowed to work with all colleagues, as the supervision and personal training by a practical instructor is only required for 15% of the time.
